The Letter (ha)

The letter , ha is not difficult to remember, because its shape is not very similar to other Devanagari letters. It represents the sound made by the English h found in such words as ahead .

The letter (ha) is written differently than many of the other letters. While it has the typical horizontal line at the top, it has no vertical bar that descends to the bottom of the letter. Rather, it has a very short vertical bar that turns sharply to the left and then curves down slightly. Attached to this mark is the English letter c, drawn at an angle with its last stroke drawn out.

Wait; that's not a letter c, that's the outline of the head of a Laughing Hyena. As it hangs from the top of the letter, the hyena's eye is open and it is laughing heartily: ha ha ha ha ha ha!
