March 2000

On March 10, 2000, I arrived at San Francisco, in Silicon Valley, at the height of the Internet dot-com madness. My company was in the middle of finalizing a round of funding from another company, and my arrival was part of a good-faith agreement to continue the process. I didn't know at the time that my "good-faith" was unfounded, and that the other company had no funding to give — the promises were nothing more than hot air. My first month was spent in a corporate rental apartment in St. Francis place. My, how welcoming — even a bag of candy on the coffee table! (I suppose it should have been welcoming, for the price the corporate rental company was charging.)
